Privacy notice

This notice explains, in plain English, what personal data easymower collects, why, how long we keep it and what your rights are under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

The short version: you can read the whole site without giving us any personal information. We don't use tracking cookies, we don't store IP addresses from normal visits, and we don't sell data to anyone.

What we collect and why

Visiting the site: analytics

We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that we host ourselves, so the data isn't shared with an analytics company. It records pages viewed, the referring website, and broad details such as browser, device type and country. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't store your IP address and isn't used to identify you or follow you across other sites.

Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: understanding which pages are useful so we can improve the site.

Clicking a retailer link

Retailer links go through a redirect on our site (addresses starting /go/). When you click one, we record the product and retailer, the page and position of the link, your device type, the referring website and your country if your connection supplies it. Instead of your IP address, we store a one-way hash made from your IP address, browser details and a secret that changes daily. It can't be reversed, and hashes from different days can't be matched. Lawful basis: legitimate interests, to measure which retailers and pages are useful and to report visitor numbers to retailers in aggregate.

Emailing us

If you email us, we receive your email address, name if you include it, and your message. We use them only to reply and to act on what you've asked, such as correcting a price. Lawful basis: legitimate interests in responding to you.

Staff login

Our editors sign in to a private admin area with their work email address. We keep that address and a record of sign-ins and changes for security and accountability. This doesn't apply to readers.

Tools

The lawn size calculator runs in your browser. If you look up a postcode, it's sent from your browser directly to postcodes.io, a free public postcode service, and not stored by us. Map images are loaded from a third-party satellite imagery provider, which, like any website, receives your IP address to deliver them. The shapes you draw stay in your browser. Finder and running-cost answers are sent to our server in the page address only to show your results; they aren't linked to you.

We don't sell or rent personal data. We use a hosting provider to run the site and an email provider to handle mail, both acting on our instructions. Retailers receive only aggregate click counts, never individual records.

How long we keep it

Analytics: kept in aggregate; individual page-view records deleted after 24 months.
Click records: deleted after 24 months. Aggregate totals may be kept longer.
Emails: deleted 24 months after the conversation ends, unless we need them longer to resolve a dispute.
Staff accounts: kept while the person works with us and deleted within 6 months of leaving.

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to have it transferred to you in a usable format. Because we don't store IP addresses or set tracking cookies, we usually can't link analytics or click records to a person. If you've emailed us, we can find and act on those messages.

Complaints

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
