Stihl robot mowers

Overview

Stihl, the German maker founded in 1926 and best known for chainsaws and garden power tools, sold robot mowers under the iMOW name. In the UK they were sold only through Stihl approved dealers rather than online, which suited buyers who wanted a local shop to install and service the mower.

That changed in 2026. Between June and September, every iMOW product page was removed from stihl.co.uk, and the UK catalogue no longer contains any robot mower. The only iMOW item left on the site is a cleaning kit. Stihl hasn't explained the change publicly, and Stihl Germany still sells a handful of models, so this may be a UK decision rather than the end of iMOW everywhere. For UK buyers, though, there is currently no new Stihl robot mower to buy from Stihl itself.

That's why the range table on this page is empty. The model pages below remain for owners, used buyers and anyone offered leftover dealer stock.

The range explained

Stihl's robot mowers fall into three groups, all wire-guided:

• Stihl RMI 422 and 632: the older generation. The RMI 422 and 422 P cover smaller lawns; the RMI 632 is a larger mower with a wider cut. None of the base models has a mobile connection, and weather protection is IPX4.
• Stihl iMOW (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7): the newer generation, numbered by size from the iMOW 3 (500 m²) to the iMOW 7 (5,000 m²). They connect to the MY iMOW app over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and have an IP56 body. The 3 and 4 share a smaller chassis with a manual height knob; the 5, 6 and 7 are larger, with a wider cut and height set in the app.
• Stihl iMOW EVO (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 EVO): the same five sizes with a built-in LTE-M mobile connection, a higher 45% slope rating and app-set height across the range. The EVO models also lock themselves if they're taken outside their home area.

Across the current generation, rated areas are 500–5,000 m². Stihl notes that these assume simple lawns with few obstacles and gentle gradients, so leave some margin.

Which Stihl should I buy?

For a new mower, our honest answer is probably none, unless a dealer has stock at a real discount. Stihl's last-known UK prices, now archived, were £929–£3,269 for the iMOW and £1,399–£3,779 for the EVO. Those were premium prices for wired mowers, and the case for paying them is weaker now that the range has no UK future.

If you are offered clearance stock:

• Want remote control and theft protection? Choose an Stihl iMOW EVO (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 EVO) for its mobile connection, but ask the dealer how long the data is included, because Stihl doesn't say.
• Just want reliable wired mowing on a budget? A discounted Stihl iMOW (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7) does the same job with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi only.
• Lawn close to a model's rated area, or sloping? Go up a size. The iMOW 5 has a smaller battery and a shorter run time than the iMOW 4, so the 6 is the safer choice for about 1,500 m².
• Offered a used Stihl RMI 422 and 632? Only if it's cheap, the battery is recent and a dealer will still service it.

If you'd rather buy a current model with similar dealer backing, the Honda Miimo HRM 1000 to 4000 is the closest wired match, with a five-year warranty. Wire-free options from brands with UK dealers include the Honda Miimo 1500i and 2200i, Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA and Kress Mission RTKn.

Tech and app

Every iMOW relies on a perimeter wire for boundaries and guide wires to return to the dock. A satellite receiver is fitted to the current generation, but only for theft alerts and home-area protection, not for navigation. Obstacle detection combines ultrasonic sensors, which slow the mower as it approaches, with a bump sensor, and the manual says anything under 10 cm high has to be wired out. A rain sensor is standard.

The MY iMOW app handles schedules and, on most models, cutting height. Stihl UK says iMOW works with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Home. UK warranty, servicing and support

Stihl GB's warranty is five years for iMOW, for both domestic and professional use, which is generous. It depends on registering the product and having it serviced every year, which in practice means a yearly dealer visit and fee. Stihl also commits to security updates for at least 24 months after purchase, much shorter than the warranty.

With the range withdrawn, your Stihl approved dealer is the key contact for owners. Before buying remaining stock, ask the dealer to confirm the warranty registration, whether they'll carry out the annual service, and which blades and parts they can supply.
