Einhell robot mowers

For most small, gently sloping lawns, the wired Einhell FREELEXO is the sensible choice; pick the Einhell FREELEXO CAM only if your lawn is flat with clear edges and you really don't want a wire. The Einhell FREELEXO LCD BT is the one for bigger lawns, if you can find it in stock.

The FREELEXO is the newest and cheapest, at £409.95 RRP. It follows a perimeter wire, handles slopes up to 35%, and adds Wi-Fi app control and over-the-air updates. It's rated for 500 m².

The FREELEXO CAM, at £649.95 RRP, uses a camera instead of a boundary wire, apart from a short guide cable at the dock. It has no app and a lower 25% slope rating, and it relies on the lawn having edges it can see.

The FREELEXO 1200 LCD BT, at £752.95 RRP, is the older wired model with an LCD keypad and Bluetooth-only app, rated for 1,200 m². It showed as out of stock at Einhell UK when we checked.

All three run on Einhell's 18 V Power X-Change batteries, so owners of other Einhell tools can share packs. All carry a two-year warranty, extended to three years if you register online within 30 days. See the Einhell brand page for current prices.

It can stay out in a shower, but it won't mow in the wet and it's worth giving it some cover. The Einhell FREELEXO CAM has a rain sensor, so it stops mowing when the sensor detects rain. Its body is rated IPX4, which means it resists splashing water from any direction but isn't designed for hosing or heavy jets.

A roof over the charging station keeps the mower and the camera lens drier and cleaner. Einhell sells a robot mower garage for its FREELEXO range, but it isn't included in the box. Winter is different from the odd wet day: robot mowers are generally best cleaned and stored indoors over the colder months, and the removable Power X-Change battery makes that easy to do. Not around the lawn, but there is a short cable by the charging station. Most budget robot mowers need a wire pegged round the whole lawn; the Einhell FREELEXO CAM doesn't. Einhell does, however, supply a 12 m guide cable that you lay around the charging station to help the mower dock.

To find the edge of the lawn, it uses a camera that recognises grass by colour and texture, with ultrasonic sensors for walls and hedges and a shock sensor for anything it touches. For areas it can't tell apart by sight, such as a flower bed that runs straight into the grass, Einhell includes 5 m of magnetic tape to lay down as a barrier.

That approach works best on a lawn with clean edges: paving, gravel, or a clear cut edge to a bed. Where grass fades into borders, long grass or ground-cover plants, a camera mower is more likely to wander or stop short, and you may end up laying plenty of magnetic tape anyway.

Yes. The Einhell FREELEXO connects to the Einhell Connect app over your home Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth, so you can start, stop and reschedule it without being in the garden. Einhell also uses the Wi-Fi link for over-the-air firmware updates, which it says run overnight.

There's no mobile data connection, so the mower needs a decent Wi-Fi signal where it works and docks, and it can't be tracked by GPS. Einhell mentions no paid service. The app matters more on this model than on some rivals: it has only a simple LED keypad, and Einhell says most schedule settings are changed in the app.

The older Einhell FREELEXO LCD BT is the opposite: a full LCD keypad but Bluetooth only.

Fairly quiet, although Einhell gives two different figures. The UK product page for the Einhell FREELEXO lists a sound power level of 61 dB(A), which is the figure we show. The FREELEXO 500 manual gives a lower sound power of 56.3 dB(A). Einhell doesn't explain the difference, so the page figure may overstate it.

Either way, it sits within the normal range for a small robot mower and well below a petrol or mains mower. Sound power describes the noise the machine gives off, not what you hear from a distance, so from the house or a neighbour's garden it will seem quieter than the number suggests. A robot also works in shorter, more frequent sessions, so the noise is spread across the week rather than concentrated in one long cut.

When comparing with other brands, check which measure they quote. Some, such as Flymo, publish a "perceived" sound level, which tends to be lower than a sound power figure for the same machine. For reference, Einhell's wire-free Einhell FREELEXO CAM is listed at 57 dB(A) and the older Einhell FREELEXO LCD BT at 59.4 dB(A), both measured sound power.

On paper, yes: Einhell rates the Einhell FREELEXO LCD BT for 1,200 m², which leaves some headroom over 1,000 m². Whether it copes comfortably depends on the shape of the lawn and how much wire you'll need.

The cut is only 180 mm wide, which is narrow for a lawn of that size, so expect it to run for many hours a week. Einhell doesn't publish a mowing time per charge, but the supplied Power X-Change battery is 93.6 Wh, the largest in the FREELEXO range. Lawns split into several areas, or with lots of beds and trees, take longer to cover than one open rectangle.

Wire is the other limit. Einhell supplies 210 m of wire and 300 pegs, and the manual allows up to 250 m in total. Measure the full perimeter, including loops around islands such as trees and beds, before buying: a long, narrow 1,000 m² garden can need more wire than a square one. Extra wire and pegs are sold separately.

Einhell hasn't said so, but there are signs it's winding down. At the end of September 2026 the Einhell FREELEXO LCD BT was still listed and priced on Einhell's UK site, but showed as out of stock. It's also the older design: the newer Einhell FREELEXO adds Wi-Fi and over-the-air updates, which the LCD BT lacks.

If you find one in stock at a good price, it's still covered by Einhell's normal warranty, and it uses the same Power X-Change batteries, blades and garage as the rest of the FREELEXO range. It's also the only FREELEXO rated above 500 m², at 1,200 m². We'll update this page if Einhell confirms a change.
