How it navigates and sets up
The FREELEXO CAM is Einhell's wire-free model. A camera tells grass from other surfaces, ultrasonic sensors pick up walls and hedges, and a shock sensor handles anything it bumps into. There's no boundary wire around the lawn, but you do lay a short 12 m guide cable around the charging station to help it find its way home, and you can use the supplied magnetic tape to fence off areas.
This kind of camera navigation needs clear boundaries. It suits a rectangular lawn edged with paving or gravel; it struggles where grass runs into borders, meadow areas or ground-cover plants. Our guide to wired and wire-free mowers compares the options.
Einhell rates it for 500 m² and slopes up to 25%, which is about 14 degrees and lower than the wired FREELEXO models. Einhell doesn't publish a mowing time, passage width or obstacle height.
Cutting
The cut is 180 mm wide with three blades, and height is adjusted steplessly from 20 mm to 60 mm. Einhell doesn't claim edge cutting, so plan to trim edges. Measured sound power is 57 dB(A), which is quiet.
App, connectivity and security
There's no app and no wireless connection. You programme schedules on the mower itself. For some buyers that's a plus: no accounts, no firmware prompts and nothing to go wrong with Wi-Fi. Security is a PIN code and an alarm if the mower is lifted. A rain sensor stops it mowing in wet weather.
Running costs, warranty and support
The battery is an 18 V Power X-Change pack (54 Wh), which you can swap with other Einhell garden tools. The standard warranty is 2 years, rising to 3 years if you register online within 30 days. Einhell has a UK website with service pages and spares. Prices start from £579.95.

Can the Einhell FREELEXO CAM be left out in the rain?
It can stay out in a shower, but it won't mow in the wet and it's worth giving it some cover. The Einhell FREELEXO CAM has a rain sensor, so it stops mowing when the sensor detects rain. Its body is rated IPX4, which means it resists splashing water from any direction but isn't designed for hosing or heavy jets.
A roof over the charging station keeps the mower and the camera lens drier and cleaner. Einhell sells a robot mower garage for its FREELEXO range, but it isn't included in the box. Winter is different from the odd wet day: robot mowers are generally best cleaned and stored indoors over the colder months, and the removable Power X-Change battery makes that easy to do. Does the Einhell FREELEXO CAM need any wire at all?
Not around the lawn, but there is a short cable by the charging station. Most budget robot mowers need a wire pegged round the whole lawn; the Einhell FREELEXO CAM doesn't. Einhell does, however, supply a 12 m guide cable that you lay around the charging station to help the mower dock.
To find the edge of the lawn, it uses a camera that recognises grass by colour and texture, with ultrasonic sensors for walls and hedges and a shock sensor for anything it touches. For areas it can't tell apart by sight, such as a flower bed that runs straight into the grass, Einhell includes 5 m of magnetic tape to lay down as a barrier.
That approach works best on a lawn with clean edges: paving, gravel, or a clear cut edge to a bed. Where grass fades into borders, long grass or ground-cover plants, a camera mower is more likely to wander or stop short, and you may end up laying plenty of magnetic tape anyway.

How does the FREELEXO CAM know where the lawn ends?
A camera recognises grass by its colour and texture, and ultrasonic sensors detect walls and hedges. It works best where the lawn meets a clearly different surface, such as paving, gravel or a bed edge.
Does the FREELEXO CAM have an app?
No. Einhell lists no app for it and the manual lists no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Schedules and settings are entered on the mower's keypad.
Can I use my existing Einhell batteries?
It runs on Einhell's 18 V Power X-Change system and comes with a 3.0 Ah battery. Einhell's other PXC batteries use the same connection, though a different capacity will change how long it runs.
How do I stop it mowing a flower bed with no hard edge?
Einhell supplies 5 m of magnetic tape that acts as a virtual barrier. You can buy more tape, but for lawns with lots of soft edges, a wired or mapped mower may be easier.
