Replacement blades are the one accessory every robot mower owner buys. Most mowers use small pivoting razor blades on a spinning disc, and a few sets a season is normal. Below are the manufacturers' own blade packs and cutting discs, with the models each fits and current UK prices.

What's on this page

We list three kinds of product:

  • Blade packs: sets of replacement blades, usually with screws. Pack sizes vary a lot, from a single change to enough for a whole season or more.
  • Cutting discs and blade discs: the plate the blades mount on, sold as a spare or with blades already fitted.
  • Special-purpose discs: some brands sell alternatives, such as an edge-cutting disc, for particular models.

Each product shows the mower families the manufacturer lists it for. Blade systems differ between ranges even within one brand, so match the pack to your model, not just the brand name.

Compare cost per change, not cost per pack

Because pack sizes differ so much, the price of the pack tells you little on its own. Work out how many complete changes a pack gives you. If your mower carries three blades and the pack has nine, that's three changes. Then compare that cost across packs. When to change blades

The lawn is the best guide. Change the blades when you see:

  • grass tips that look torn, whitish or brown a day or two after mowing;
  • nicks, bends or rounded edges on the blades;
  • more noise or vibration than usual, or shorter mowing sessions.

Manufacturers publish intervals too. Husqvarna, for example, gives different intervals for its standard and longer-life blades. Stones, twigs, fallen fruit and mowing close to paving all wear blades faster. Our guide to robot mower blades explains the blade types and how to change them safely.

A few practical tips

  • Replace every blade at once so the disc stays balanced.
  • Switch the mower off and wear gloves before turning it over. Follow your manual's steps.
  • Keep a spare pack in the shed so you can change blades as soon as the cut starts to look ragged.
  • Blades aren't covered by warranty. Nearly every manufacturer treats blades and discs as wear parts, so budget for them as a running cost.

Frequently asked questions

How many blade sets will I need a year?

For most UK gardens, somewhere between two and five sets over a season, depending on the blade type, the size of the lawn and how many hours the mower runs. Change them sooner if grass tips look torn or pale after mowing.

What's the difference between blades and a cutting disc?

The blades are the small cutting edges. The disc is the plate they're screwed to, which spins underneath the mower. You'll replace blades regularly; a disc only needs replacing if it's cracked, bent or worn around the screw holes, or if you want a different cutting option the manufacturer offers.

Do blade packs include new screws?

Most manufacturer packs do, and several manufacturers say to fit new screws every time you change blades, because the screw is also a wear part. Check the pack contents on the product page.

Are cheaper third-party blades a good idea?

They often fit, but thickness, weight and hole position vary, which can affect balance and cut. Manufacturers recommend their own blades, and using others could complicate a warranty claim if something goes wrong.
