How it navigates and sets up
The 308V shares its hardware with the Husqvarna Automower Aspire R6V and the Husqvarna Automower 312V. It is wire-free: Husqvarna's EPOS system positions the mower using satellite RTK, with the correction data coming from Husqvarna's cloud over your home Wi-Fi. You don't need a reference station on a pole if the Wi-Fi signal reaches every part of the lawn. An AI camera handles obstacle detection and, Husqvarna says, keeps the mower working in places where satellite reception is poor.
If your router can't reach the garden, you're looking at an outdoor Wi-Fi extender, a Connect Kit fitted by a Husqvarna dealer for cellular, or the EPOS RS1 reference station. Check this first; it's the most common reason a wire-free install gets more complicated than expected.
Husqvarna rates the 308V for 800 m² and slopes up to 40% inside the lawn, falling to 15% along the edge.
Cutting
The cutting disc carries three pivoting razor blades and cuts a 220 mm strip. Height is adjusted by hand between 20 mm and 50 mm. Satellite positioning means it mows in lines, which is quicker to cover a lawn than random mowing and gives a striped finish. Husqvarna quotes a perceived sound level of 63 dB(A).
App, connectivity and security
Automower Connect handles scheduling and temporary stay-out zones over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and the mower links to Amazon Alexa and Google Home. A PIN code and alarm are standard. GPS theft tracking isn't listed; for that you'd need one of the NERA models with built-in cellular, such as the Husqvarna Automower 405VE NERA.
Running costs, warranty and support
Husqvarna's consumer warranty is 2 years, battery included. Servicing and optional hardware go through Husqvarna's UK dealers. Replacement blades are an inexpensive yearly cost; see the running-costs calculator. Current prices start from £1,249. Compare that with the 312V before buying: if your lawn might grow, or sits near the top of the 308V's range, the bigger model is the safer choice.

Is the Automower 405VE NERA worth the extra money over the Automower 308V?
For many small gardens, no: the Husqvarna Automower 308V covers similar ground for much less. The Husqvarna Automower 405VE NERA earns its higher price if your Wi-Fi doesn't reach the lawn, you want GPS tracking, or you care about tidier edges.
Both are wire-free, use Husqvarna's EPOS satellite RTK with cloud corrections, and have an AI camera. Neither needs a reference station where there's an internet connection across the lawn. The differences are in the details:
- Connectivity. The 405VE NERA has cellular built in, so it gets RTK corrections and app access over mobile signal. The 308V relies on Wi-Fi unless a dealer fits a Connect Kit.
- Security. The 405VE NERA lists GPS theft tracking; the 308V's data doesn't.
- Cutting. The 405VE NERA adds the rear EdgeCut disc and a higher maximum cutting height, 55 mm against 50 mm. Its height also adjusts electrically from the app, while Husqvarna lists manual adjustment on the 308V.
- Night vision. Its camera has infrared, though we'd keep any robot mower to daytime schedules for hedgehogs.
The 308V has a few advantages. Husqvarna rates it for steeper slopes, 40% against 30%, and it is lighter. The 405VE NERA is rated for a larger lawn, 900 m² against 800 m², and is quoted as slightly quieter.
The 308V costs from £1,249 and the 405VE NERA from £2,299. If your garden has good Wi-Fi throughout and you don't need tracking, the 308V is the better value. If the lawn is beyond Wi-Fi or theft is a worry, the 405VE NERA's extras are harder to add later.

Frequently asked questions
How does the 308V differ from the Aspire R6V and 312V?
On Husqvarna's spec sheets they are the same mower: 220 mm cut, camera, manual height and a 40% slope rating. The 308V is rated for 800 m², between the R6V's 600 m² and the 312V's 1,200 m², and charges faster than the R6V.
Can the 308V work without Wi-Fi?
It needs RTK correction data, which it normally gets from Husqvarna's cloud over Wi-Fi. Without Wi-Fi coverage you can add a dealer-fitted Connect Kit for cellular or an EPOS RS1 reference station.
Does it have EdgeCut?
No. EdgeCut, Husqvarna's extra rear cutting disc, is on the 305E, 310E, 405VE and 410VE NERA models. The 308V has a single disc with three pivoting razor blades.
