A robot mower garage is a roof over the charging station. It keeps sun, rain, leaves and bird droppings off the mower, which helps most with camera and LiDAR models and docks in full sun. What these products are

Brands use different names: garage, house, shelter, canopy, charging base cover. They all do the same basic job: a roof on a frame that sits over the charging station, open at the front. Most are plastic; a few are metal or wood. None of them lock, and none of them are a substitute for indoor storage over winter.

Some products on this page cover only the charging station rather than the whole mower. Stiga's charging base covers are an example. Read the product name and the manufacturer's page to see which you're getting.

Why the compatibility list matters more than usual

A garage that doesn't fit properly can stop the mower docking. That's why we list only what the manufacturer says each garage fits. Things that vary between models, even within one brand:

  • Height. LiDAR units, camera masts and antennas stick up well above the body on many wire-free mowers.
  • Footprint. All-wheel-drive and large-area mowers are much wider and longer than compact models.
  • How it attaches. Many garages bolt to the charging station base plate, which differs between ranges.
  • Signal and sensors. Garages for RTK and vision mowers are shaped to leave the antenna or cameras clear.

If a product shows no "Fits" list, the manufacturer doesn't publish one. Ask the retailer or manufacturer before ordering.

Is it worth buying one?

A garage makes most sense if the dock is in direct sun for much of the day, sits under trees, or your mower relies on cameras or LiDAR that need clean lenses. If the dock is already in a shaded, sheltered spot, or you have a basic wired mower, the money is better spent on spare blades. Third-party and home-made garages

Generic garages and wooden ones built to match a shed are widely sold, and many owners build their own. If you go that way, leave room for the mower to dock and back out, keep the charging contacts easy to reach for cleaning, allow airflow so the mower doesn't overheat in summer, and keep any RTK antenna or reference station out from under the roof. Peg or fix the garage down: light plastic canopies can lift in strong wind.

Frequently asked questions

Will any robot mower garage fit my mower?

Not necessarily. The mower has to drive in, dock accurately and reverse or turn out, and tall parts such as LiDAR domes, cameras and aerials need clearance. Manufacturer garages are sized for specific models; for anything else, check the internal height, width and depth against your mower's dimensions.

Can a garage stop my wire-free mower working?

It can. A solid roof over an RTK antenna may delay the mower getting a satellite fix, and a low front edge can block the view of cameras or LiDAR as the mower leaves the dock. Garages made by the mower's manufacturer are designed around these sensors.

Should I leave my mower in its garage over winter?

Most manufacturers recommend storing the mower indoors for winter, and often the charging station too. A garage is open-fronted and doesn't keep out frost or damp.

Do any mowers come with a garage included?

A few do. The mower's spec table shows whether a garage is included, so check that before buying one separately.
