Which version do you need?
The X7 is rated for 3,000 m² and the X7 Plus for 6,000 m²; both share the same body, deck and 70% slope rating. Gen 2 (2026) switches to network RTK over a standard 4G module, adds day-and-night obstacle sensing, and includes 24 months of service on the X7 or 60 months on the X7 Plus before a yearly fee. Gen 1 models, if a dealer still has them, use an RTK antenna in the garden and don't need a subscription to mow. Pick Gen 1 if you want no running fee; pick Gen 2 for a simpler install.
How it navigates and sets up
The X7 is wire-free. Sunseeker calls its navigation AONavi: RTK satellite positioning fused with camera-based visual mapping (VSLAM). On Gen 2, the RTK corrections come over the built-in 4G module (network RTK), so there's no antenna to mount in the garden. First-generation X7s use their own RTK base station, supplied in the box. In both cases you map the lawn in the app. Because the X series is sold through dealers, ask whether yours includes setup.
Sunseeker rates the X7 for 70% slopes with AWD, a steering rear wheel and front suspension. That puts it among the more slope-capable consumer mowers; our slopes guide explains what the percentage means.
Cutting
Two floating discs give a 350 mm cut, wide enough to cover big lawns in fewer passes. Height adjusts electrically from 20 mm to 100 mm, an unusually tall maximum that suits rougher or longer grass. Gen 2 follows the boundary to cut the edge, but Sunseeker doesn't claim full edge-to-edge cutting, so expect some strimming. The quoted noise level is 60 dB(A).
App, connectivity and security
The Sunseeker Smart App handles maps, schedules and zones; Sunseeker lists the zone count as unlimited. Gen 2 has 4G-GPS tracking with geofence alerts as standard, with 24 months–60 months of service included depending on the model. On Gen 1, 4G is standard on the X7 Plus and optional on the X7. Running costs, warranty and support
The warranty is 2 years as standard, rising to 3 years if you register online within 30 days; the battery gets two years either way. Sunseeker publishes no UK price: the X series is sold only through UK dealers, which is also where you'd go for servicing. X7 questions and answers
Can the Sunseeker X7 mow at night, and is that safe for hedgehogs?
Gen 2 can, but you shouldn't schedule it to. Sunseeker says the Sunseeker X7 Gen 2 detects obstacles day and night, using binocular cameras with an iToF depth sensor. First-generation models use cameras alone, and Sunseeker doesn't make the same night-time claim for them.
Being able to see in the dark isn't the same as being safe for wildlife. Hedgehogs are active at night, freeze rather than run when threatened, and are small and low to the ground, which is hard for any obstacle sensor. Wildlife groups advise daytime-only schedules for robot mowers. Sunseeker quotes a noise level of 60 dB(A), so daytime running shouldn't bother neighbours much either. Should I buy the Sunseeker X7 Gen 2 or look for a first-generation X7?
It comes down to whether you'd rather avoid a running fee or avoid installing an antenna. Both generations of the Sunseeker X7 share the same basics: a 350 mm twin-disc deck, electric height adjustment, all-wheel drive and a 70% slope rating. The standard X7 is rated for 3,000 m² and the X7 Plus for 6,000 m² in both generations.
The first generation uses its own RTK base station, supplied in the box, which you set up in the garden with a clear view of the sky. Sunseeker doesn't require a subscription for it to mow. 4G is an optional module on the X7 and standard on the X7 Plus.
Gen 2 receives its corrections as network RTK over a built-in 4G module, so there's no antenna to put up.
