Mammotion robot mowers

Overview

Mammotion was founded in 2016 and sells robot mowers in the UK mainly through its own online store; the company named on its UK site is based in Düsseldorf. It concentrates on wire-free mowers, and its all-wheel-drive LUBA is one of the few consumer robot mowers rated for really steep lawns.

Every current Mammotion mower is wire-free. Each one combines at least two positioning methods: satellite RTK (usually network RTK over 4G, so there's no base station in the garden), cameras and, on some versions, a 360° LiDAR scanner. That mix is what lets the mowers keep going under trees and beside buildings, where RTK alone can lose accuracy. Our navigation guide explains the differences.

The range explained

The current range has two lines:

• LUBA (all-wheel drive): the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD for 1,500 to 5,000 m² and the compact Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD for 1,000 to 1,500 m². Both are rated for 80% slopes. The older Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD is still listed but was sold out, and the LUBA 3 has effectively replaced it.
• YUKA (two-wheel drive): the Mammotion YUKA mini 2, Mammotion's cheapest current mower, for 800 to 1,000 m² on slopes up to 45%.

The detail that matters most: within a model, the sizes aren't always the same machine. The LUBA mini 2 AWD 1000 and YUKA mini 2 800 use cameras plus network RTK, while the 1500 and 1000 respectively swap RTK for LiDAR. The LUBA 3 AWD 1500 has no network RTK, a smaller motor and much less area per charge than the 3000 and 5000. Read the variant notes on each model page before choosing a size.

Which Mammotion should I buy?

• Big lawn, especially with slopes: the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD in its 3000 or 5000 version. The 400 mm cut covers ground quickly. Skip the 1500 unless your garden is small and full of fixed features for its LiDAR to see. From £1,999.
• Small to medium lawn with slopes, or with lots of edges: the Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD. Pick the 1000 for open lawns with good mobile signal, the 1500 (LiDAR) for enclosed gardens with trees and walls.
• Small, fairly flat lawn on a budget: the Mammotion YUKA mini 2, from £799. Stock was thin when we checked, so confirm availability.
• Very large estate: the Mammotion LUBA 2 AWD 10000X was the only Mammotion rated beyond 5,000 m², but it was out of stock at the time of writing.

Who shouldn't buy a Mammotion? If you want a quiet mower for evening use, a local dealer to install and service it, or a mower with a boundary wire for heavily shaded ground, look at Husqvarna or Honda instead.

Tech and app

The Mammotion app handles mapping (you drive the mower round the edge of the lawn once), zones, no-go areas, schedules and cutting height. Zone counts vary by model and size, from a handful on the smallest YUKA to dozens on the LUBA 3. Newer models include three years of 4G data; after that, Mammotion's UK terms list paid 4G plans for remote features. Mammotion says its network RTK service is free.

Obstacle detection uses AI cameras on every model and LiDAR where fitted. Mammotion doesn't publish noise figures for some older models, and the LUBA 3 AWD's quoted 70 dB(A) is high for a robot mower.

UK warranty, servicing and support

Mammotion's UK warranty statement gives three years on current mowers, including the battery, which is better than the two years many rivals offer. Blades, discs and tyres are wear parts. A paid one-year extension appears on the UK site, but Mammotion's support pages hadn't confirmed how to buy it.

Support is online: email, 24/7 chat and a German phone number. There's no UK dealer network, so installation is down to you and repairs go through Mammotion. Blades are pivoting razor blades on discs and are cheap to replace; see our blade guide.
