Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD vs Segway Navimow X4: which big-lawn mower?

Who each one is for

These are two of the most capable wire-free mowers for large, sloping UK gardens. Both drive all four wheels, cut about 40 cm at a pass and take their RTK corrections over built-in 4G, so neither needs a wire or, normally, an aerial.

The Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD suits big lawns broken up by trees, hedges and buildings, and owners who'd like a slightly lighter machine and more included 4G data.

The Segway Navimow X4 Series suits open, steep lawns of 1,500 m² and up, gardens split into lots of zones, and buyers who want a dealer to help with set-up.

Navigation

Both combine network RTK with other sensors, but different ones. The LUBA 3 AWD 3000 and 5000 add a 360° LiDAR scanner and two cameras. The X4 adds three cameras giving all-round vision and a time-of-flight depth sensor, but no LiDAR.

In the open, the two should be similar. Near tall trees and houses, where satellite signals weaken, LiDAR gives the LUBA 3 a more reliable way to hold its position than cameras alone. That's the main technical reason to pick it.

One caution: the LUBA 3 AWD 1500 has no network RTK at all and relies on LiDAR and cameras, with far less area per charge. It isn't a direct rival to the X4; compare the X4 with the 3000 or 5000. See our navigation guide for how the approaches differ.

Lawn size

The LUBA 3 AWD is rated for 1,500–5,000 m² and the X4 for 2,000–5,000 m². Both top out at 5,000 m². The X4 starts at 2,000 m², so for a lawn well under that it's more mower than you need; the X4 page suggests Navimow's i2 or H2 ranges instead.

Slopes and weight

The X4 is rated for 84% and the LUBA 3 for 80%. Navimow's footnote says its figure was set with the mower under manual remote control, so treat the two as broadly equal. Our slopes guide converts these into degrees.

Weight is a clearer difference. The X4 weighs 28.8 kg–29.2 kg, against 19 kg for the LUBA 3. Neither is easy to carry, but the X4 is a two-person lift if you need to move it between lawns.

Cutting

The X4 cuts 430 mm wide with height set in the app from 20 mm to 95 mm. The LUBA 3 cuts 400 mm wide from 25 mm to 70 mm. If you like a longer lawn, the X4's higher maximum is useful. Navimow also claims a full edge mode that cuts within about 5 cm of walls.

Zones, 4G and subscription

The X4 handles up to 120 zones, well beyond the LUBA 3's 15–50. That only matters in genuinely complex gardens.

Neither needs a subscription to mow. The LUBA 3 includes 36 months of 4G data; the X4 includes 12 months, after which remote features are a paid renewal. Our network RTK and 4G guide explains what happens when included data ends.

Noise

Both are loud for robot mowers. Mammotion quotes 70 dB(A) for the LUBA 3; Navimow quotes 68 dB(A) for the X4, measured without cutting. Plan schedules around neighbours either way.

Warranty and price

Mammotion gives 3 years including the battery. Navimow gives 3 years on the mower and charging station and two years on the battery. The LUBA 3 AWD currently starts from £1,999 and the X4 from £2,199. Compare the sizes you'd actually buy, not just the cheapest version of each.

Verdict

For most large, sloping gardens with trees or buildings, the LUBA 3 AWD 3000 or 5000 is the safer choice: LiDAR covers the spots where RTK struggles, it's much lighter, and the three years of included 4G data matter for a mower that positions itself over 4G.

The Navimow X4 is the better fit for open, steep lawns where LiDAR adds little, for gardens that need dozens of zones, and for owners who want a higher cut or a local dealer. It isn't the right choice if you need to carry the mower or have narrow access.
