Husqvarna Automower 305 vs 310 Mark II: which boundary-wire Automower?

Who each one is for

These two share a body, a cutting system and an app. On Husqvarna's spec sheets, the rated area is the only real difference, so choosing between them is mostly about your lawn size.

The Husqvarna Automower 305 suits simple, fairly flat lawns up to about 500 m², with room to spare against its rating.

The Husqvarna Automower 310 Mark II suits lawns of about 600 m² to 850 m², or a smaller lawn with a complicated layout that would push the 305 to its limit.

Both suit buyers who are happy to lay a boundary wire in return for a mature, proven system, and gardens with lots of trees or tall buildings, where satellite mowers can struggle.

Navigation and installation

Both follow a perimeter wire laid around the lawn and around anything they should avoid, such as beds and ponds. You can peg the wire down yourself or pay a Husqvarna dealer to install it; our installation guide explains the work. Lawn size

The 305 is rated for 600 m² and the 310 Mark II for 1,000 m². Husqvarna quotes both at ±20%, and obstacles or narrow sections reduce what a mower keeps on top of. Choose a rating comfortably above your lawn.

Both mow for 60 min per charge, according to Husqvarna, so the 310 Mark II covers its bigger rating by spending more hours a day mowing.

Slopes

Both are rated for 40% inside the working area. Along the boundary wire, Husqvarna's spec table allows only 15%, so a lawn that falls away at an edge may need the wire routed inside the slope. See our slopes guide.

Cutting

Both use 3 pivoting razor blades on a disc across a 220 mm cut, Husqvarna's long-standing approach of trimming a little and often. Height is set by hand from 20 mm to 50 mm. There's no edge-cutting disc, so expect some trimming along walls and beds.

App, 4G and security

Both use Automower Connect@Home over Bluetooth, so you need to be near the mower to change settings. Husqvarna's optional Connect Kit adds a cellular connection for control away from home; it's fitted by a dealer. There's no subscription for the standard app. Security is an alarm and PIN on both, with no GPS tracking.

Noise

Husqvarna quotes 59 dB(A) for both, which is quiet for a robot mower and suits evening schedules.

Warranty and price

Both carry Husqvarna's 2 years UK consumer warranty, battery included, with servicing and parts through Husqvarna's dealer network. The 305 currently starts from £699 and the 310 Mark II from £699. Because the hardware is the same, the price gap is the cost of the extra rated area.

Verdict

Choose on lawn size. Up to about 500 m², the 305 does everything the 310 Mark II does for less. From about 600 m² to 850 m², pay for the 310 Mark II so the mower isn't running flat out.

Neither is the right choice if you don't want to lay a wire, need remote control without extra hardware, or want GPS theft tracking.
