Automower or Navimow: the short answer

Husqvarna's Automower range is the established choice: long-proven cutting hardware, a UK dealer network and a line-up that still includes boundary-wire mowers. Segway Navimow is newer, sells mostly online, and packs more navigation and connectivity hardware into its mowers for the money.

This page compares two mid-sized models that show the difference clearly: the Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA and the Segway Navimow i2 LiDAR.

Who each one is for

The 310E NERA suits lawns of about 800 m² to 1,200 m² with an open sky and Wi-Fi reaching the whole garden, owners who want tidier edges and app-set cutting height, and buyers who'd like a dealer to install and service it.

The i2 LiDAR suits lawns from about 600 m² to 2,000 m², especially gardens shaded by trees, hedges or houses, or with weak mobile signal. It's not for steep banks.

Navigation

Two different mowers share the 310E NERA name. The wire-free version uses Husqvarna's EPOS satellite RTK with corrections from Husqvarna's cloud over your home Wi-Fi, so there's no reference station where Wi-Fi covers the lawn. It has no camera, so near trees and buildings it relies on satellite positioning alone, but it can also run on a boundary wire. The older version is supplied for a wire and needs a plug-in to go wire-free. Check the article number on the listing.

The i2 LiDAR takes the opposite approach: a solid-state LiDAR sensor plus a camera, with no satellite corrections at all. Shade doesn't bother it, but it needs walls, fences or trees in range, so a very open lawn gives it little to work with. Our navigation guide explains both.

Lawn size and slopes

The 310E NERA is rated for 1,000–1,500 m² depending on version; the 1,500 m² figure applies to the wire-free version mowing in systematic lines. The i2 LiDAR covers 800–2,000 m².

The i2 LiDAR is rated for 45% with two-wheel drive. The 310E NERA manages 30% inside the lawn and 20% at the boundary. Neither suits steep banks; see our slopes guide.

Cutting

Both cut 220 mm wide with height set from the app: 20 mm to 55 mm on the Husqvarna and 20 mm to 70 mm on the Navimow. The 310E NERA adds Husqvarna's EdgeCut rear disc for closer edges, at the cost of a second set of blades to replace.

4G, security and noise

The i2 LiDAR has 4G built in with 12 months of data, plus GPS tracking and lift and out-of-area alarms. The 310E NERA connects over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, with a PIN and alarm; built-in cellular and GPS tracking need a dealer-fitted Connect Kit. Our theft and security guide covers why that matters.

Quoted noise is similar: 60 dB(A) for the Husqvarna (a perceived level) and 59 dB(A) for the Navimow, measured without cutting.

Warranty and price

Husqvarna gives 2 years, battery included, backed by UK dealers. Navimow gives 3 years on the mower and two years on the battery. The 310E NERA starts from £1,949 (the wire-free version is £2,199), and the i2 LiDAR from £999.

How the wider ranges differ

The Husqvarna range splits into three groups: boundary-wire Automowers such as the 305 and 310 Mark II; camera-assisted wire-free V models from the Aspire R6V to the 450V NERA; and EPOS NERA models like the 310E NERA, up to the all-wheel-drive 435X AWD NERA. Built-in cellular comes with the 400-series models; the smaller ones need the dealer-fitted Connect Kit.

The Navimow range is entirely wire-free. The i2 comes in three navigation types (network RTK, LiDAR, or both in the LiDAR Pro), the dealer-sold H2 adds LiDAR and RTK for bigger lawns, and the four-wheel-drive X4 covers up to 5,000 m² of steep ground. 4G is built into every current model except the older i Series, where it's an add-on.

Verdict

For most mid-sized lawns, the i2 LiDAR is the better value: it costs less, handles shaded gardens, includes 4G tracking and has a longer warranty on the mower. It isn't right for wide open lawns with little around them.

The 310E NERA is worth the extra if your lawn is open with Wi-Fi throughout, you want EdgeCut for neater borders, you'd like dealer installation and servicing, or you want the option of a boundary wire.
