Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA

There's no subscription. Husqvarna says the cloud RTK correction data used by the wire-free Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA is provided at no extra cost, and the Automower Connect app is free to use.

The regular cost is blades. Because of the EdgeCut disc at the back, the 310E NERA has two cutting discs with pivoting razor blades, so there are more blades to replace than on a single-disc mower. Husqvarna doesn't make the total blade count clear. Husqvarna sells several blade types that fit it; see our blades guide for how often to change them.

Other costs are optional. A dealer-fitted Connect Kit adds cellular connectivity, the EPOS RS1 reference station covers lawns without internet coverage, and an Automower House protects the mower from sun and rain. Electricity use is small; our running costs calculator gives an estimate. Husqvarna's warranty is 2 years for consumers, and dealer servicing is charged separately.

Not as standard. Husqvarna's UK specification for the Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA lists an alarm and PIN code lock but no GPS theft tracking, and neither version has a built-in cellular connection to report its location.

The PIN means a stolen mower won't run without the code, and the alarm adds a further deterrent. Neither will help you find the mower once it has gone. The Automower Connect Kit adds cellular connectivity; Husqvarna doesn't say on the 310E NERA page whether that brings location tracking, so ask the dealer who fits it.

If tracking matters to you, the Husqvarna Automower 410VE NERA has built-in cellular and GPS tracking with a similar rated area. It is if you want to avoid a boundary wire or value neater edges and app control. If you're happy with a wire and your lawn is simple, the Husqvarna Automower 310 Mark II does the basic job for less.

The 310 Mark II is a boundary-wire mower rated for 1,000 m². It is light, quoted as quiet, and because it doesn't depend on satellites it behaves the same under trees and beside tall walls. Its app connects over Bluetooth only unless a dealer fits a Connect Kit, height is set by hand, and it is now run-out stock.

The Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA comes as two products. The newer wire-free version uses cloud RTK over Wi-Fi and is rated for up to 1,500 m² with systematic mowing. The earlier version is supplied for a boundary wire. Both have the rear EdgeCut disc, electric height adjustment from the app, and Wi-Fi as well as Bluetooth.

There is one area where the older mower wins on paper. Husqvarna rates the 310 Mark II for 40% inside the lawn, against 30% for the 310E NERA.

The 310 Mark II is on sale from £699 and the 310E NERA from £1,949. For a shaded garden with steep sections, the wired Mark II is the safer choice. It depends mainly on your garden's sky view and how much you want to spend. The Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA steers by satellite RTK with corrections over Wi-Fi, so it suits open lawns. The Segway Navimow i2 LiDAR uses LiDAR with a camera and no RTK, which Segway pitches at enclosed gardens with trees and buildings.

On paper the Navimow is rated for steeper slopes (45% against 30%), has built-in 4G and a longer 3 years warranty, and costs less, from £999. The Husqvarna answers with its EdgeCut disc, a UK dealer network for installation and servicing, and the option of a boundary wire where satellite signal is poor. It costs from £1,949.

The wire-free Husqvarna Automower 310E NERA suits lawns of roughly 800 m² to 1,200 m², and the boundary-wire version a little less. The headline rating needs some unpacking.

Husqvarna lists 1,500 m² for the wire-free version, but that figure assumes systematic mowing in straight lines and comes with a ±20% tolerance. For irregular (random) mowing Husqvarna gives 1,000 m², the same as the rating of the older boundary-wire version, 1,000 m².

Several things eat into a rated area in a real garden. Narrow strips, lots of flower beds or trees, slopes and several separate lawns all add travel time and turning. Grass also grows fastest in late spring, when a mower near its limit can struggle to keep up. Choosing a model rated comfortably above your measured lawn leaves spare capacity for those weeks.

If your lawn is under about 700 m², the Husqvarna Automower 305E NERA has the same cutting system and slope rating for less money. If you're above about 1,200 m², or the garden is awkward, look at the Husqvarna Automower 320 NERA, which is rated for 3,300 m².
