How it navigates and sets up

The YUKA is wire-free. It uses RTK positioning, from either the base station in the box or Mammotion's network RTK service over 4G, with cameras for obstacle detection. There's no LiDAR, so like other RTK-based mowers it works best on lawns with an open view of the sky. You map the lawn by driving round its edge in the app.

It is rear-wheel drive and rated for 45% slopes, which is typical for a two-wheel-drive mower but well short of the LUBA models. See the slopes guide for what that means in degrees.

Cutting

Two floating discs with pivoting blades cut a 320 mm strip, and the cutting height runs from 20 mm to 90 mm, a wider range than most robot mowers. That suits owners who like a longer lawn. Mammotion doesn't publish a noise figure.

Run time is the weak point: Mammotion's spec sheet gives 65 min–130 min per charge across the range, with the shortest figures on the 1000 and 2000.

App, connectivity and security

The Mammotion app handles zones (up to 10–30), schedules and GPS tracking over the built-in 4G. 12 months of data was included from new. It also works with Alexa and Google Assistant.

Running costs, warranty and support

The warranty is 3 years from the original purchase. Blades are cheap wear parts; see our blade guide. The sweeper kit adds its own brushes and bags to maintain.

Should you still buy one?

Only cheaply. Its RRP was £1,299–£1,899, and new stock has gone from Mammotion's store. For a current mower, the Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD (from £1,249) handles far steeper slopes, and the Mammotion YUKA mini 2 is cheaper for smaller lawns. The YUKA still makes sense for a flat lawn with heavy leaf fall if it comes with the sweeper and a working base station.
