When you need a new battery
Lithium-ion batteries lose capacity with age and use. Signs yours is wearing out:
- the mower returns to charge much sooner than it used to;
- it no longer finishes the lawn in its scheduled time;
- the app reports battery health or warns of a fault;
- charging takes much longer, or the mower stops mid-run.
Before replacing, check the basics: clean the charging contacts on the mower and dock, make sure the mower is docking properly, and check whether a firmware update is pending. A fault in charging can look like a tired battery.

The batteries we track are replacements listed by the manufacturers themselves, each with the models it fits. Some brands sell more than one capacity for the same range, and a few multi-purpose machines use large, swappable packs. Many major brands don't sell replacement batteries through their UK online stores at all. For those, contact the brand's service team or an authorised dealer, who can also fit it.
What to check before buying
- Exact compatibility. Match the part to your mower model and, where relevant, its generation. Voltage and connector must be right.
- Capacity. Given in amp-hours (Ah) or watt-hours (Wh). A watt-hour figure is the best comparison; see mAh and Wh.
- Warranty. Check whether your battery is still under warranty first.
- Who fits it. Some batteries are simple to swap; others sit inside the body and the manufacturer recommends a dealer.
Making a battery last
Most manufacturers give similar advice: store the mower indoors for winter with the battery at the charge level the manual gives, keep it away from frost, and don't leave the dock in baking sun all summer. Frequently asked questions
How long does a robot mower battery last?
Manufacturers rarely give a figure in years. Battery life depends on how many charge cycles the mower runs, heat, and how the battery is stored over winter. The practical sign is that the mower mows for noticeably less time per charge, or can't keep up with a lawn it used to manage.
Is the battery covered by the warranty?
Sometimes for a shorter period than the mower. Several brands give the battery its own warranty term, so check the warranty notes on the brand's page before paying for a replacement.
Can I fit a bigger battery to mow a larger lawn?
Only if the manufacturer offers one for your model. A higher-capacity battery lets the mower run longer per charge, but the rated area also depends on the mower's navigation and schedule. Never fit a battery the manufacturer doesn't list for your mower.
Can I use a third-party battery?
It's not advisable. Robot mower batteries are specific to each model's electronics and charging system, and a poorly matched lithium battery is a safety risk. Use the manufacturer's part or one supplied by an authorised dealer.
