Two jobs, two kinds of cover
In-season sunshades and canopies stand over the charging station and shade the mower between runs. They're a lighter, cheaper alternative to a full garage, and the same rules apply: the mower must be able to dock and leave freely, and the cover mustn't sit over an RTK antenna, cameras or LiDAR.
Storage covers and bags are for when the mower isn't working: over winter, or when you move it between properties. They keep dust, damp and garden-shed debris off the body and sensors. Some brands also sell protective wraps or covers for the mower's body or for add-on modules on multi-purpose machines.
The products we track come from the manufacturers' own catalogues, and each listing shows which models it fits. Several manufacturers don't sell a cover at all, so if your brand isn't here, a generic storage cover is the usual choice.
What to look for
- Size. Check the cover's internal dimensions against the mower's length, width and height, including any LiDAR dome or aerial.
- Breathability. A mower stored damp inside a sealed plastic bag can suffer from condensation. Clean and dry the mower first, and prefer a breathable fabric for long storage.
- Fixings. Outdoor sunshades need pegs or a firm fixing. Light fabric catches the wind.
- Clearance for sensors. For anything used during the season, the cover must leave rain sensors, cameras and antennas clear.
Covers don't replace good storage
A cover keeps the mower clean, but it doesn't make an outdoor spot safe for winter. Most manufacturers recommend storing the mower indoors between late autumn and spring, and many also say to bring in the charging station. Frequently asked questions
Can I put a cover over my robot mower while it's on the dock?
Only if it's designed for that. A cover that sits on the mower stops it leaving to mow and can block sensors, rain detection and satellite signal. Sunshades and canopies that stand over the dock, leaving the mower free to drive out, are the in-season option.
Do I need a cover for winter storage?
Not strictly. Most manufacturers ask you to clean the mower, charge the battery to the level the manual gives and store it somewhere dry and frost-free. A cover or bag keeps dust off in a shed or garage, which is helpful but not essential.
Is a cover the same as a garage?
Not quite. A garage is a roof on a frame over the charging station. Covers are usually fabric or plastic and either shade the dock or wrap the mower in storage. Some brands blur the line, so check the product page.
Will a generic cover do?
For winter storage, a generic dust cover that's big enough will usually be fine. For anything used while the mower is working, stick to one made for your model so it doesn't interfere with docking or sensors.
