Which version do you need?
The Twenty ZR and Twenty ZR EVO share the same 1,000 m² rating, battery and deck on Ambrogio's UK spec sheet. The standard ZR was out of stock on Ambrogio's UK store when we checked, with the EVO on sale alongside it. Ambrogio doesn't clearly set out what the EVO adds, so ask the dealer before paying more.
How it navigates and sets up
The Twenty ZR shares the Twenty platform but replaces the buried boundary wire with radar, which Ambrogio says detects the lawn edge, with bumpers for obstacles and a lift/tilt sensor for safety. It doesn't use GPS or satellite navigation, so tree cover and buildings shouldn't matter in the same way. Ambrogio's spec table still lists 50 m of wire in the box, without saying what it's for, so installation may not be completely wire-free. For the wider picture, see our wire vs wire-free guide.
Ambrogio gives a 45% maximum slope, with 35% recommended on a trimmed lawn and 20% at the edge. It weighs 7.5 kg.
Cutting
The ZR cuts 180 mm wide with a solid four-point steel blade, and height runs from 25 mm to 60 mm. It has no mapping, so expect it to cover the lawn in a random pattern like other Twenty models. Measured noise is quoted at 59 dB(A).
App, connectivity and security
As standard the ZR connects by Bluetooth, and a PIN can be set in the app. Up to 4 zones are supported. The optional ZCS Connect module adds GPS and a GSM connection, which enables remote control and Alexa, Google Home and Siri; the manual lists 2G bands and Ambrogio doesn't say whether there's a data fee. Rain sensing is standard.
Running costs, warranty and support
The warranty is 2 years. Ambrogio offers a third year, parts only, for Twenty-platform robots sold from 2024 that get annual dealer servicing; we assume that covers the ZR, but confirm with the dealer. Ambrogio says it uses radar to find the lawn edge and radar plus bumpers to detect obstacles. Ambrogio doesn't publish much detail on how it handles different kinds of edge, so ask a dealer to assess your garden.
Why is there wire in the box if it's wire-free?
Ambrogio's UK spec table lists 50 m of wire alongside 'No Perimeter Wire Required' but doesn't explain its purpose. It may be used to guide the mower back to its charging station.
Can I control the Twenty ZR remotely?
Not as standard. It uses Bluetooth, so you need to be nearby. The optional ZCS Connect module adds GPS and a GSM connection for remote control and voice assistants.
