How it navigates and sets up
The GOAT G1 positions itself with cameras (a panoramic camera and a fisheye) plus two UWB beacons that you place around the lawn. Ecovacs describes the system as VSLAM with UWB: the cameras recognise the surroundings and the beacons give fixed radio reference points. It needs no boundary wire, but you do have to site and power the beacons as well as the charging station, which makes installation more involved than on newer LiDAR or vision models.
It's rated for 800 m². Ecovacs' UK pages don't publish a maximum slope or a passage width, so if your garden has banks, treat it with caution.
Cutting
The cut is 220 mm wide with three blades, and the height range is 30 mm to 60 mm. That upper limit is lower than the 80 mm on the current O-series, which matters if you like to leave the grass longer in dry spells. Ecovacs lists 59 dB(A).
App, connectivity and security
The ECOVACS HOME app manages up to 16 zones. It connects over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and Ecovacs sold an optional cellular module for connection beyond your home network.
Running costs, warranty and support
Sold new in the UK, its robot warranty ran for 3 years. If you're buying second-hand, ask for proof of purchase, since the warranty runs from the original sale. Ecovacs' UK support list no longer names the G1, which suggests help for it may become harder to find.
Should you still buy one?
Only as a clearly discounted second-hand buy, and only if the seller includes both beacons, the station and a healthy battery. For a new mower, the GOAT O RTK and the GOAT O500 Panorama are lighter, have a higher maximum cutting height and come with a fresh warranty. Its last UK list price was £999, which is more than the current models cost.

Is a second-hand Ecovacs GOAT G1 worth buying now it's discontinued?
Only at a clear discount and only if the kit is complete. The Ecovacs GOAT G1 is no longer sold new in the UK: its product page says it's sold out and points buyers to other GOAT models, and it has dropped off Ecovacs' UK mower hub and support model list. That last point is the one to weigh most, because help with faults and software may get harder to find as time passes.
Before handing over money, check:
- Both UWB beacons and their power supplies. The G1 positions itself with cameras plus two radio beacons placed around the garden, and it won't navigate as designed without them.
- The charging station and cables, plus the cellular module if the listing mentions 4G. That was an optional extra.
- Battery health. Ask how long a typical session lasts now, and when the mower was bought.
- Proof of purchase. Sold new, the G1 carried a warranty of 3 years on the robot, running from the original sale date, so any remaining cover depends on that receipt.
Also bear in mind the specifications. Ecovacs rated it for 800 m², but never published a maximum slope on its UK pages, and the cut height tops out at 60 mm.
Its last UK list price was £999, more than a new Ecovacs GOAT O RTK (O600 RTK / O800 RTK) costs, so a used G1 needs to be well below that to make sense. Our wire-free hub lists current alternatives.
What's changed between the Ecovacs GOAT G1 and the GOAT O RTK that replaced it?
The biggest change is how they find their way. The Ecovacs GOAT G1 combined cameras with two UWB radio beacons that you position and power around the garden. The Ecovacs GOAT O RTK (O600 RTK / O800 RTK) models use satellite positioning corrected by a single RTK station, backed by a camera. That swaps two beacons for one station, but it also means the newer mowers need a clear view of the sky.
Other differences from Ecovacs' spec pages:
- Cutting height: the G1 tops out at 60 mm; the O RTK models reach 80 mm.
- Weight: Ecovacs lists 23.2 kg for the G1, though that may include the station, against 10.4 kg–11 kg for the O RTK pair.
- Connectivity: the G1 had an optional cellular module; the O RTK models are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth only.
Both carry the same length of UK warranty when bought new.

Is the Ecovacs GOAT G1 discontinued?
In the UK, effectively yes. Its product page says it's sold out and points to other GOAT models, and it no longer appears on Ecovacs' UK mower hub. The GOAT O RTK range is the closest current replacement.
What are the UWB beacons for?
UWB (ultra-wideband) beacons are small radio markers placed around the garden. The G1 measures its distance to them, and combines that with its cameras, to know where it is without a boundary wire.
Can I still get a garage or 4G module for the G1?
When we checked, Ecovacs UK still listed a G1/GX garage and a cellular module for the G1-800. Stock of accessories for discontinued models can run out, so buy spares while they're available.
