How it navigates and sets up
The Aspire R4 follows a perimeter wire around the edge of the lawn and around beds or other obstacles. It has no satellite positioning or camera. Installation means pegging or burying the wire, which on a small lawn is a modest job. See our wired vs wire-free guide.
Husqvarna rated it for 400 m² and slopes up to 25% inside the working area, with a lower limit along the wire. At 5.9 kg, it's easy to lift to another lawn, though each area needs its own wire loop.
Cutting
It uses 3 pivoting razor blades on a disc, across a narrow 160 mm cut. Height is set by hand from 20 mm to 45 mm, a lower maximum than most Automowers. Husqvarna lists 70 min of mowing per charge and a sound level of 59 dB(A).
App, connectivity and security
It works with the Automower Connect app over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and with Amazon Alexa, Google Home. Husqvarna's spec lists a PIN lock but no alarm and no GPS tracking, so security is basic. Our security guide has practical ways to reduce the risk.
Running costs, warranty and support

Only if it's very cheap and your lawn is small and flat. The current Husqvarna Automower Aspire R6V costs from £999, is wire-free with satellite RTK and a camera, cuts a wider path, handles steeper ground and is rated for a larger lawn. If you want to stay with a wire and spend less, the Worx Landroid M is a current alternative.

How does the Automower Aspire R6V compare with the old Aspire R4?
The Husqvarna Automower Aspire R6V is a bigger, wire-free mower, while the Husqvarna Automower Aspire R4 was a small, light machine that needed a boundary wire. The R4 is now discontinued. Husqvarna doesn't name a direct successor, but the R6V is the current Aspire model and the natural upgrade.
