In practiceThe L60 manual lists the robot as IPX4. The two ratings mean different things, and Ambrogio hasn't resolved the conflict, so check with the dealer if you plan to leave it out in rain. Source
Which version do you need?
The L60 Elite has the smaller battery and is rated for 200 m²; the L60 Elite S+ has a bigger battery, runs longer and is rated for 400 m². The base L60 Elite was out of stock and no longer in the Models menu on Ambrogio's UK site when we checked, so the S+ is the one you're likely to find.
How it navigates and sets up
The L60 Elite has no perimeter wire, no GPS and no base station. It finds the lawn edge with grass sensors underneath, drop sensors at the corners that detect a fall of more than about 5 cm, and bumpers for barriers. That means your lawn needs a clear physical boundary on every side, and Ambrogio's UK page warns that some edge modification may be needed. Where the lawn runs straight into a flower bed or gravel, the mower may not stop. Setup is simply putting it on the lawn and pressing start. There's no dock. When the battery runs down, you pick the mower up and charge it off the lawn. Ambrogio rates it for 50% slopes at most with 4WD, and the S+ weighs 8.3 kg.
Cutting
The L60 cuts 250 mm wide with a solid four-edged stainless steel blade. Height adjusts only between 42 mm and 48 mm, a much narrower range than most mowers, so it can't leave the lawn very short or very long. Ambrogio quotes a measured noise level of 65 dB(A).
App, connectivity and security
Control is by keypad or the Ambrogio Remote app over Bluetooth, so you need to be nearby. There's one zone, no mapping and no no-go areas; anything you don't want mown has to be physically fenced off. There's no subscription, no rain sensor and no PIN lock listed.
Running costs, warranty and support
The warranty is 2 years on the mower and battery. Ambrogio sells in the UK through its distributor, Ambrogio UK in Lincoln, and a dealer network, which is useful for servicing and parts. The UK RRP is £1,059–£1,249, though current prices can be lower: from £899. Running costs are mostly blades; see the running-costs calculator.

How does the Ambrogio L60 Elite know where the lawn ends?
Sensors under the body detect grass, corner sensors detect drops of more than about 5 cm, and bumpers detect barriers. The lawn needs a clear physical edge all the way round, such as paving, a wall or a step down.
Does the L60 Elite have a charging station?
No. There's no dock; you carry the mower to its charger when it needs charging, which Ambrogio says takes a few hours.
Can I control the L60 Elite from my phone?
Yes, over Bluetooth with the Ambrogio Remote app when you're nearby. There's no Wi-Fi or 4G, so no remote access from elsewhere.
Can it handle slopes?
Ambrogio gives a 50% maximum, with 40% recommended on a trimmed lawn, and it has four-wheel drive.
