Honda Miimo HRM 40 and 70

How it navigates and sets up

The small Miimos work inside a boundary wire. Honda supplies 125 m of wire and 180 pegs, and the Map & Mow system cuts in logical stripes rather than wandering at random. You can lay the wire yourself, but most buyers go through a Honda dealer, and dealer involvement matters for the warranty (below). Cutting

Three swing-back blades cut a 190 mm strip, with manual height adjustment from 30 mm to 50 mm. That's a narrow range, fine for a regularly mown lawn. Honda quotes a guaranteed sound power of 63 dB(A), higher than most rivals of this size. Honda gives about 45 minutes of mowing per charge for the HRM 40 models and about 75 minutes for the HRM 70 Live, which also gets the border-cut option. Honda doesn't publish a minimum passage width for this range, so ask the dealer if your garden has narrow links.

App, connectivity and security

The HRM 40 has no app. The two Live models have a built-in mobile connection and Bluetooth for the Mii-monitor app and Alexa. Honda's UK spec table describes the connection as 2G roaming, and Honda commits to it only until the end of 2031. All three sound an alarm when lifted and use a security code; Honda lists no GPS anti-theft tracking.

Running costs, warranty and support

Honda gives 5 years for domestic use, conditional on dealer registration and servicing to Honda's schedule, so budget for paid services. Honda's contact centre is on 0345 200 8000. Prices start from £849; the newer Honda Miimo HRM 1000 to 4000 range starts at a similar RRP and is rated for bigger lawns.
