Which version do you need?
The S 500 and S+ 500 share the same chassis, cutting deck and 500 m² rating. The S 500 is controlled only from the mower. The S+ 500 adds a built-in cellular modem for the Bosch Smart Gardening app, SmartMowing scheduling based on weather and grass growth, and voice-assistant linking. Given the uncertainty over the app's future, the S+ is only worth a premium if the price gap is small.
How it navigates and sets up
The Indego S works inside a perimeter wire, with the docking station and wire supplied. Bosch's LogiCut system mows in parallel lines rather than at random, and the mower tracks what it has covered. It handles up to 3 separate lawn areas within its 500 m² rating and passages down to 75 cm between wires. The slope limit is 27%. Laying the wire is a DIY job; see our installation guide.
Cutting
Three pivoting blades cut a 190 mm strip, with height from 30 mm to 50 mm. BorderCut runs a pass along the wire at the start of a full mow, though as with any wired mower you should expect a strip next to hard edges. Bosch's measured sound power is 61 dB(A). Each charge gives about an hour of mowing.
App, connectivity and security
The S 500 has no connectivity. The S+ 500 has a built-in cellular modem for the Bosch Smart Gardening app, which adds remote control, SmartMowing scheduling and Alexa or Google Assistant linking. Bosch's manual lists only 2G (GSM) bands for that modem, and Bosch has said nothing about how long the service will continue. Both versions have a PIN auto-lock and an alarm.
Running costs, warranty and support
Bosch's guarantee on new tools is 2 years, or three with MyBosch registration within four weeks. Bosch UK still sells extra docking stations, perimeter wire and a wire repair kit for the Indego range, but no longer hosts the manuals on its UK site.
Should you still buy one?
Only at a real discount, and preferably the plain S 500 rather than paying extra for the S+'s uncertain connectivity. The mowing itself is well specified on paper, with systematic lines and a border pass, but the range has no successor and no public support commitment. A current wired option such as the GARDENA SILENO city or Husqvarna Automower 305 comes with full backing. The Bosch Bosch VISIMOW18V is not a like-for-like replacement.

Is the Bosch Indego S discontinued?
Yes, in practice. Bosch's UK robot mower range now shows only the VISIMOW, and the Indego product pages have gone. Bosch hasn't named a successor.
Will the Indego S+ app keep working?
Bosch hasn't said. We found no official statement on how long the Smart Gardening app and cloud service will be supported for S+ and M+ owners. The S+ mows normally without the app.
Does the S+ need a data subscription?
Bosch sources we checked don't say either way. The modem is built in; ask the seller whether any plan applies.
Is the VISIMOW a replacement for the Indego S?
No. The VISIMOW is rated for 100 or 200 m², has no dock, wire or app, and you swap its battery by hand.
