How it navigates and sets up
The X3 Gen 2 is wire-free and uses Sunseeker's AONavi 2.0 navigation: network RTK corrections received over the built-in 4G module, combined with visual mapping from a pair of cameras. There's no wire to bury and no RTK antenna to mount, which makes it one of the simpler installs of this type. You map the lawn in the app; your dealer may offer to help.
Sunseeker describes the drive as front-wheel drive and rates it for 30% slopes, so it's for flat or gently sloping lawns. Network RTK depends on 4G coverage and a clear view of the sky; our network RTK and 4G guide explains what to check before buying.
Cutting
The X3 cuts a 200 mm strip with 3 blades, and height is set by hand between 20 mm and 60 mm. It follows the boundary to cut the edge, and Sunseeker claims it gets within about 3 cm, so a little trimming will still be needed. Noise is quoted at 60 dB(A).
App, connectivity and security
The Sunseeker Smart App handles mapping, schedules and zones, and Sunseeker lists no zone limit. 4G is built in with 24 months of service, GPS tracking and geofence alerts. Sunseeker lists Google Assistant support for the X3, but not Alexa, which the X5 and X7 pages include. Obstacle detection uses binocular cameras and works in daylight only.
Running costs, warranty and support
The standard warranty is 2 years, extended to 3 years if you register online within 30 days; the battery is covered for two years. There's no UK online shop or price, so buying and support go through dealers. After the first two years, add the yearly network RTK subscription (Sunseeker quotes it in euros) to blades and electricity; see the running-costs calculator.

X3 questions and answers
Is the Sunseeker X3 waterproof enough to mow in the rain?
Sunseeker doesn't publish an IP (water resistance) rating for the Sunseeker X3 Gen 2 on its UK spec table, so we can't say how waterproof it is. What Sunseeker does list is automatic rain detection, which is meant to stop it mowing and send it home when it starts to rain.
That's probably the better approach anyway. Cutting wet grass gives a ragged finish, clogs the blades, and reduces grip, which matters on the X3's front-wheel drive even within its 30% slope rating. Over winter, the usual advice for robot mowers is to clean the mower, charge the battery and store it somewhere dry and frost-free; check your manual for Sunseeker's own instructions. Sunseeker X3 or X5: which one suits my lawn?
Lawn size and slope decide it. The Sunseeker X3 is rated for 800 m² and slopes up to 30%, with front-wheel drive. The Sunseeker X5 is rated for 2,000 m² and 60% slopes, with all-wheel drive. If your lawn is flat and under about 800 m², the X3 covers it; if it's bigger or has a proper bank, the X5 is the one to look at.
Some differences are less obvious. The X3 Gen 2's obstacle detection works in daylight only, while the X5 Gen 2 adds an iToF sensor for day-and-night detection. Sunseeker lists Google Assistant for the X3 but both Alexa and Google Assistant for the X5. The X5 has a slightly wider deck at 220 mm against 200 mm, and both use manual height adjustment over the same 20 mm to 60 mm range.
Much is shared. Both Gen 2 models use network RTK over built-in 4G with no antenna to install, include two years of service before a subscription is needed, and carry the same warranty terms. Neither has a published UK price, as Sunseeker sells the X series through dealers, so ask for quotes on both.
